''Kanavaney Kankanda Deivam'' is a Tamil film starring Gemini Ganesan, Anjali Devi, Lalitha and M. N. Nambiar. The film was remade in Hindi as ''Devta'' (1956) and in Malayalam as ''Nagamadathu Thampuratti'' (1982). ==Production== Bhanumathi who gained fame with B. N. Reddi's ''Swargaseema'' (1945) was cast in this film and a song "Unnai kann theduthey" was first rendered by Bhanumathi and the sequence was shot when she chose to walk out of the film. Lalitha was cast as a vamp and initially she was brought on board after production commenced, as a substitute for P. Bhanumathi. Others in the cast included M. N. Nambiar, V. Nagaiah, M. N. Rajam, T. P. Muthulakshmi and 'Friend' Ramasami. Gemini Ganesan disguised himself as a beggar and approached producer Narayana Iyengar who was so impressed that he gave him the role in the film.
